To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven

Spring; Synonymous to the word beginning, can be seen as a new chapter in the book of life. Unlike the start of the year, this feeling of 'newness' is not brought about by the end of a numerical order but by different environmental changes. Animals would once again return to their original territories or awake from slumber after the chill of winter dies and previously barren flora begin to sprout buds and show their true colours.

Photographs taken of budding cassie plants in my yard. I never realised their buds were so beautiful.

Substitutions may work just as well as the originals. I couldn't help but think of Project Runway's Tim Gunn who is known to utter these words,"Make it work" as each designer would try to create gorgeous designs under the most peculiar circumstances. Sure enough, I did just that and with the use of a few common household items and Google as a guide, I managed to create my first watercolour illustration.

Improvements are needed of course but if I stick to my one drawing per month objective, better things should present themselves. :)

Why so serious dear? All dressed up with a sky blue afro, red lips, a smiley chain earring and a less than subtle strapless gown.

Spring/Summer 2014 Jewellery Trends

As last season was all about oversized statement collars, studded cuffs and extravagant drop earrings, surely it’s only appropriate that spring/summer jewellery gets a makeover on its colour palettes, fine details and how pieces are worn.

Each season, with fashion trends changing how we dress it can be difficult to truly know what’s ‘in’, but the truth is that trends are more of a guideline for us to build our own looks around and really get creative. Jewellery in particular is such an exciting concept as it is often affordable to buy and can be worn in a way that is completely personal to the wearer. With fashion, if a dress doesn’t look right we have to switch things around to get that perfect fit, but with jewellery there is a sense of freedom to wear as much or as little as we like.

So what does spring/summer 2014 have in store for fashion followers? This season we will be seeing a definite emphasis on pretty, delicate accessories. Spring is all about accentuating your look with little feminine touches like the Gianfranco Ferré silver waist belt seen at Milan Fashion Week. You could team this type of skinny belt with your favourite jumpsuit for some high-voltage weekend glamour.
Friendship bracelets are also having a strong fashion moment and influencing how we style up our wrist accessories. Wearing a strap watch in a pastel hue will give a nod to spring colours, while this MichelHerbelin.com women’s stainless steel Antares watch in lilac makes a stylish, chic statement. Layering up on your wrist wear is a definite yes as it keeps things contemporary and also adds interest to the most understated of outfits.
